The Fussy To Fed Method
One to One support for fussy eaters and restrictive eaters.
Led by a Paediatric Dietitian, Feeding Therapist and mum who truly gets it!
Feeling stuck with your child’s eating?
No pressure. Just a chance to talk through what’s going on and see how I can help.
You’re doing everything right. So why isn’t it working?
You’ve offered the food again and again. You’ve tried the divided plates, the reward charts, the fun shapes and the hidden veg. You’ve been calm. You’ve been firm. You’ve downloaded the apps and read the books and followed every piece of advice the internet has thrown at you.
And your child still refuses.
Every mealtime feels like walking into a battle you didn’t start and can’t win. The dread kicks in before you’ve even decided what to cook. The negotiations, the meltdowns, the guilt when you serve the same safe beige foods for the hundredth time it is exhausting in a way that is really hard to explain to anyone who hasn’t lived it.
And then comes the advice.
“Just keep offering it.” “They’ll eat when they’re hungry.” “Stop giving the safe foods.” “Just make them try one bite.”
You’ve heard it all. You’ve tried it all. And you’re still here, dreading dinner.
Here’s what nobody tells you
It’s not about the food.
When a child finds eating hard, whether that’s fussy eating, restrictive eating, sensory difficulties or something more complex, the problem isn’t what’s on the plate. It’s how food feels.
And you cannot change what a child eats without first changing how they feel about food.
That’s not a nice idea. That’s the clinical reality. And it’s the reason every tip, trick and hidden vegetable hasn’t worked because they all start in the wrong place.
The right place to start isn’t eating. It’s safety. It’s curiosity. It’s building a relationship with food that feels manageable, interesting and completely pressure-free.
That’s exactly what the Fussy to Fed Method does.
You’re not failing. You just need the right support
I know how lonely this feels. I know the guilt that follows every mealtime that goes wrong. I know what it’s like to sit at your own dinner table wondering if you’re doing permanent damage.
I know because I’ve been there. As a mum.
My daughter wouldn’t put food or even toys in her mouth unless I spoon-fed her from a pouch. She had severe reflux, a delayed allergy to cow’s milk, and an egg allergy we discovered during weaning. Mealtimes gave me sweaty palms and genuine anxiety attacks. The only advice I ever received was “why don’t you just not feed her? She’ll start eating on her own.”
I was a Paediatric Dietitian and Feeding Therapist and I still felt completely helpless at my own dinner table.
She eats now. Really eats. Not because I found a magic trick, but because I understood what she needed and built a plan around that.
That’s exactly what I’ll do for your child.
Hi I’m Emma
I’m Emma Shafqat Paediatric Dietitian, Feeding Therapist and one of the most recognised specialists in fussy and restrictive eating in the UK.
My work has been featured in The Telegraph, The Daily Mail, iNews, The Sun and Women’s Health. I’ve spoken on the UK’s biggest parenting podcasts and worked one-to-one with hundreds of families navigating everything from fussy eating to severe restrictive eating and ARFID.
Parents know me as the Food Chaining Queen. I think of myself as the person who helps children find a way into food that actually works for them and helps parents finally feel confident at the dinner table again.
I built the Fussy to Fed Method because families like yours deserve more than generic advice and a six-month waiting list.
You deserve a proper, personalised, clinical plan with a specialist in your corner every step of the way.
The Fussy To Fed Method
The Fussy to Fed Method is my signature one-to-one programme for fussy eaters, restrictive eaters and children who find food genuinely hard from toddlers all the way through to teenagers.
It combines clinical nutrition support with evidence-based feeding therapy in a way that is completely personalised to your child. Not a template. Not a generic handout. Not another round of tips that don’t fit your family.
A proper plan. Built around your child. Delivered by a specialist who knows this field inside out and who has lived it as a mum too.
No pressure. No forcing. No blame.
Just calm, evidence-based, genuinely personalised support that meets your child exactly where they are and builds from there – one tiny step at a time.
The Fussy To Fed Framework

Step 1 - The Food Map
Before we do anything else, we need to understand exactly where your child is starting from.
You’ll log a food diary using the Libro app and I’ll run a full clinical nutrition analysis a proper picture of what your child is eating, what they’re missing, and what we need to address first. We look at energy, protein, iron, zinc, vitamins and minerals so we can keep your child nourished and supported while we work on expanding their diet.
Alongside this, I’ll review short videos of your child’s mealtimes. This is where I spot the things that are impossible to see just from talking the dynamics, the language, the pressure points, the stress cues. This is often where the biggest breakthroughs begin.
This isn’t about judgement. It’s about clarity. And once we know where your child is starting from, we can build a plan that actually makes sense.

Step 2 - The Safe Table
Food refusal isn’t always about the food. Sometimes it’s the pressure, the routine, how food is served, the language being used around mealtimes, or sensory overwhelm that has been quietly building for years.
In this step we look closely at what is happening around food and we change it.
What to say at mealtimes and what to stop saying. How to use safe foods without getting permanently stuck on them. How to respond when your child refuses without adding more pressure to an already loaded moment. How to create routines that support appetite and confidence. How to make the table feel like a place your child wants to be rather than one they dread.
This is where mealtimes start to feel different. For your child and for you.

Step 3 - The Food Lab
This is where the fun begins.
For younger children, The Food Lab is about playful, pressure-free food exploration silly food adventures that make new foods feel interesting rather than scary.
For older children, it becomes a proper food scientist experience investigating what a food looks, smells and sounds like, whether it’s crunchy, squishy, smooth or sticky, and whether they can poke it, build with it, dip it or dissect it all without any pressure to eat.
Your child is always in control. There is no expectation to taste, touch or eat anything. The goal is simply to help food feel curious and safe because when food feels interesting instead of threatening, children naturally start to get closer to it.
And that is when the real magic starts.

Step 4 - Brave Bites
Instead of jumping straight to a brand-new food, we start with something your child already trusts and make tiny, deliberate changes. A different shape. A slightly different texture. A new dip on the side. A familiar food served a slightly different way.
These are the bridges from “no way” to “maybe.” Small enough that they don’t feel threatening. Deliberate enough that they build real confidence over time.
Each brave bite is celebrated. Each step forward matters whether that’s touching, smelling, licking or tasting. Progress in feeding therapy doesn’t start with swallowing. It starts with feeling safe enough to try.

Step 5- The Confident Plate
This is where everything comes together.
As your child’s confidence builds and their brave bites become habits, we turn our attention to nutrition building a genuinely varied, nourishing diet that goes well beyond the beige.
We look at what your child is eating now compared to where they started, identify the nutritional wins, address any remaining gaps, and expand the plate with intention. More colours. More textures. More food groups. More of the nutrients growing children actually need.
The goal is a child who doesn’t just tolerate a wider range of foods but feels genuinely confident around them. A child who can sit at a family meal, a birthday party, a friend’s house, a school dinner table and feel okay.
That’s the confident plate. And that’s what the Fussy to Fed Method builds towards.

Imagine This…
A mealtime that doesn’t start with dread.
A child who can sit at the table and actually look at what’s on their plate without panicking, without melting down, without the same exhausting negotiation you’ve had every night for months.
A family dinner where you’re all eating together. The same meal. No separate plates, no backup beige, no silent prayers that tonight will be different.
A child who tries something new. Not because you forced them, not because you bribed them, but because food has started to feel safe enough to explore.
A lunchbox you pack with confidence. A birthday party your child can attend without you spending the whole day worrying about what they’ll eat. A school dinner they actually come home talking about.
A version of mealtimes where you’re not the food police, the short order cook, or the person holding their breath every time a plate hits the table.
More than anything, the knowledge that your child is getting what they need. That they’re nourished. That they’re growing. That you did something about it, at exactly the right time.
That’s not a fantasy. That’s what the Fussy to Fed Method builds towards. One tiny, brave step at a time.
Is the Fussy To Fed Method right for your family?
It might be exactly what you need if:
- Your child eats a limited range of foods and the list feels like it’s shrinking not growing
- They lean heavily on beige or familiar foods
- They’ve dropped foods they used to eat happily
- You’re worried they’re missing out nutritionally
- Mealtimes feel stressful, emotional or completely exhausting
- You’ve tried everything and you’re ready for a proper plan
This programme works for fussy eaters, restrictive eaters and children with ARFID traits across all ages toddlers through to teenagers. If your child has complex medical needs or faltering growth, we can discuss the right level of support on your discovery call.
Your Child deserves specialist support with this.
If your child was struggling to read, you would get them specialist help without a second thought. Eating is more complex than reading. It involves sensory processing, anxiety, trust, texture, smell, memory, routine and a nervous system that decides whether food feels safe or threatening before a single bite is even attempted.
This is not a phase. This is not bad parenting. And it is absolutely not something families should have to navigate alone with a Google search and a list of tips that don’t work.
Your child deserves proper support. And so do you.
The Fussy to Fed Method gives you both.
